Crown molding
A pro cuts and fits crown molding where your walls meet the ceiling.
What this job involves
Crown runs along the top of the wall at an angle. The pro finds the studs and ceiling joists, cuts the corners on a miter saw, and nails the pieces up. Inside corners are coped so they stay tight when the house moves. Gaps are caulked and nail holes filled, ready for paint. Ceilings that sag or walls out of square make the corners harder, which is normal in older homes.
What to have ready
- The feet around each room, wall by wall
- The crown on hand, with extra for cuts
- Photos of the ceiling corners
- Whether the walls or ceiling will be painted after
What a fair price looks like
Most homeowners in our area pay between $350 and $900 for this job. Labor per room with molding supplied by the homeowner. Painting is separate. Homes built before 1978 may need lead safe practices.
This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.
What a good pro will ask you first
- How many rooms, and what size?
- How wide is the crown?
- Is the ceiling flat, vaulted, or textured?
- Are there any built ins or cabinets the crown must meet?
