Replace a faucet or shower trim
A licensed plumber swaps a bathroom sink faucet or the visible shower handle, spout, and head.
What this job involves
For a sink, the pro removes the old faucet from below, sets the new one, and connects the supply lines. For a shower, the trim is the handle, plate, spout, and head you can see. New trim must match the valve inside the wall, or the valve must be replaced too. Illinois requires a licensed plumber for this work. Old corroded fittings sometimes break when turned, so plan for that.
What to have ready
- The new faucet or trim kit on hand
- A photo of the current shower handle and the sink faucet
- The brand of the current shower valve if you know it
- Where the main water shutoff is
What a fair price looks like
Most homeowners in our area pay between $150 and $400 for this job. Labor with parts supplied by the homeowner. A licensed plumber is required. Replacing the valve inside the wall is a bigger job.
This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.
What a good pro will ask you first
- Is this a sink faucet, a shower, or both?
- What brand is the current shower valve?
- Is the sink faucet one hole or three?
- Do the shutoffs under the sink work?
Why we only send a licensed plumbing pro
Illinois licenses plumbers statewide, and the law covers repairs and fixture swaps, not just new construction. Every plumbing request on this site goes only to a pro whose state license and contractor registration we have checked.
