Install carpet tiles

A pro lays carpet tiles in a basement, office, or playroom so stained ones can be swapped later.

What this job involves

Carpet tiles are squares that stick down or lock together. The old floor is cleared and swept, then the pro snaps center lines and lays the tiles out from the middle so the edges look even. Tiles are cut to fit along walls and around posts. The nice part is any one tile can be lifted and replaced later. Damp basement floors need a moisture check first, or the tiles will not stick.

What to have ready

  • The square feet of the room
  • The tiles on hand, with extra
  • What is on the floor now
  • Whether the basement floor ever gets damp

What a fair price looks like

Most homeowners in our area pay between $300 and $900 for this job. Labor per 200 to 400 square feet with tiles supplied by the homeowner. Removing old carpet adds to the range.

This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.

What a good pro will ask you first

  • How many square feet?
  • Concrete or wood subfloor?
  • Does the floor get damp?
  • Is the room empty?
