Install baseboard and casing
A pro removes old trim and installs new baseboard and door or window casing with tight corners.
What this job involves
The old trim is pried off and the nails pulled. New baseboard is cut to fit each wall with mitered or coped corners and nailed to the studs. Casing goes around doors and windows with even reveals. Nail holes and seams are filled and caulked so paint goes on smooth, though painting itself is separate. Old walls are wavy, so the pro scribes the trim to hide the gaps.
What to have ready
- The feet of wall to trim, room by room
- The number of doors and windows to case
- Whether the trim is bought and primed
- Photos of the current trim and corners
What a fair price looks like
Most homeowners in our area pay between $400 and $1,200 for this job. Labor with trim supplied by the homeowner. Painting is separate. Homes built before 1978 may need lead safe practices.
This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.
What a good pro will ask you first
- How many feet of baseboard, and how many doors and windows?
- What trim did you pick, and is it primed?
- Is the old trim coming off, or going over?
- Is the floor new, or will it be replaced later?
