Comfort height toilet
A licensed plumber swaps the toilet for a taller model that is easier to sit on and stand up from.
What this job involves
A comfort height toilet is about two inches taller than a standard one, like a chair, which is much easier on the knees and hips. The plumber removes the old toilet, sets a new seal, and bolts the new one down. The supply line is replaced and the toilet is checked for leaks. Illinois requires a licensed plumber for this. A rotted flange under the old toilet is the common surprise.
What to have ready
- The new toilet on hand, marked comfort or chair height
- The rough in distance, from the wall to the bolt caps
- Whether the shutoff valve by the toilet turns
- Whether you also want grab bars beside it
What a fair price looks like
Most homeowners in our area pay between $175 and $375 for this job. Labor with the toilet supplied by the homeowner. A licensed plumber is required.
This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.
What a good pro will ask you first
- What is the rough in, 10 or 12 inches?
- Round or elongated bowl?
- Do you want grab bars at the same time?
- Does the floor feel soft around the toilet?
Why we only send a licensed plumbing pro
Illinois licenses plumbers statewide, and the law covers repairs and fixture swaps, not just new construction. Every plumbing request on this site goes only to a pro whose state license and contractor registration we have checked.
