Replace a toilet
A licensed plumber removes the old toilet and sets the new one with a fresh seal.
What this job involves
The water is shut off and the old toilet is drained and lifted out. The pro cleans the flange, sets a new wax or rubber seal, and bolts the new toilet down. The tank is connected with a new supply line and the toilet is checked for leaks and rocking. Illinois requires a licensed plumber for this. A rotted or broken flange under the old toilet is the common surprise and takes extra work.
What to have ready
- The new toilet on hand
- The rough in distance, from the wall to the bolt caps
- Whether the shutoff valve by the toilet turns
- Whether you want the old toilet hauled away
What a fair price looks like
Most homeowners in our area pay between $175 and $375 for this job. Labor with the toilet supplied by the homeowner. A licensed plumber is required. A flange repair adds to the range.
This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.
What a good pro will ask you first
- What is the rough in, 10 or 12 inches?
- Does the floor around the toilet feel soft?
- Does the shutoff valve work?
- Do you want a comfort height model?
Why we only send a licensed plumbing pro
Illinois licenses plumbers statewide, and the law covers repairs and fixture swaps, not just new construction. Every plumbing request on this site goes only to a pro whose state license and contractor registration we have checked.
