Handheld shower and bench
A licensed plumber adds a handheld shower on a slide bar and a pro anchors a seat for safe sitting.
What this job involves
A handheld shower lets someone wash while seated, and a slide bar puts it at the right height. The plumber replaces the shower arm with a diverter and hose and mounts the bar into the studs. A fold down bench is anchored to the wall the same way as a grab bar. Illinois requires a licensed plumber for the shower connection. The pro will check that the bench location leaves room for the knees and a grab bar nearby.
What to have ready
- The handheld kit and bench on hand, or models in mind
- Photos of the shower walls
- Whether the walls are tile or fiberglass
- Who is using it and their height
What a fair price looks like
Most homeowners in our area pay between $175 and $425 for this job. Labor with the kit and bench supplied by the homeowner. A licensed plumber is required for the shower connection.
This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.
What a good pro will ask you first
- Tile or fiberglass walls?
- Tub or walk in shower?
- Fold down bench or a freestanding chair?
- Do you want grab bars at the same time?
Why we only send a licensed plumbing pro
Illinois licenses plumbers statewide, and the law covers repairs and fixture swaps, not just new construction. Every plumbing request on this site goes only to a pro whose state license and contractor registration we have checked.
