Carpenter Next Door

Interior painting by room

A pro preps, cuts in, and rolls one or more rooms with two coats of paint.

One day per room on siteLead-safe work if the home is pre-1978

What this job involves

The pro moves light furniture to the middle, covers the floor, and tapes the trim. Nail holes are filled, and any cracks are caulked. Edges are cut in by brush and the walls are rolled with two coats, with trim and ceilings as extra coats if you want them. Dark colors and old oil based paint on trim take more work. The room is put back and the tape pulled before the pro leaves.

What to have ready

  • The rooms and roughly how big they are
  • Walls only, or ceiling and trim too
  • The paint color picked, or a few you are choosing between
  • Photos of the walls showing any damage
  • Whether furniture needs to be moved

What a fair price looks like

Most homeowners in our area pay between $350 and $900 for this job. Labor per average room, walls only, with paint supplied by the homeowner. Ceilings and trim add to the range. Homes built before 1978 may need lead safe practices.

This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.

What a good pro will ask you first

  • How many rooms, and how big?
  • Walls only, or ceiling and trim?
  • Is the color a big change from what is there?
  • Is the trim painted with oil or latex now?
