Install a kitchen island
A pro builds and anchors a cabinet island to the floor so it does not rock or slide.
What this job involves
An island is a set of base cabinets joined together and anchored to the floor. The pro marks the spot, checks the walking space around it, and screws cleats to the floor. The cabinets go on the cleats, get joined, and are leveled. Side panels and toe kicks finish the look. If you want an outlet in the island, the village requires one in most cases, and that part needs a licensed electrician.
What to have ready
- The island cabinets and panels, assembled or boxed
- Measurements of the kitchen so the walkways can be checked
- What floor the island sits on, like tile or wood
- Whether you want an outlet in the island
What a fair price looks like
Most homeowners in our area pay between $500 and $1,400 for this job. Labor to build and anchor the island with cabinets supplied by the homeowner. Countertop and any outlet are separate.
This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.
What a good pro will ask you first
- How big is the island, and how many cabinets?
- What kind of floor will it sit on?
- Do you want an outlet or a sink in it?
- Is the countertop already ordered?
