Install countertops
A pro fits and fastens laminate or prefab countertops, cuts the sink opening, and seals the seams.
What this job involves
This is for laminate, butcher block, or prefab tops that come in set sizes, since stone slabs come with their own crew. The pro measures the base cabinets, cuts the top to length, and cuts the opening for the sink and cooktop. Corners get joined and the top is screwed up from below. Walls out of square mean the back edge needs scribing to fit tight. The sink and faucet go back in after.
What to have ready
- Measurements of each run of counter, wall to wall
- The countertop on hand or ordered
- Your sink and faucet, if they are new
- Photos of the old counter and the sink area
- Where the water shutoff is under the sink
What a fair price looks like
Most homeowners in our area pay between $500 and $1,500 for this job. Labor for laminate or prefab tops supplied by the homeowner. Reconnecting a sink drain is included. A new faucet or disposal hookup is a plumbing item.
This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.
What a good pro will ask you first
- What kind of countertop is it, and is it here yet?
- How many feet of counter, and how many corners?
- Is the sink staying or being replaced?
- Is the old counter still in place?
