Patch and texture

A pro repairs a textured wall or ceiling and blends the new texture so the patch disappears.

Half a day, often across two visits on siteLead-safe work if the home is pre-1978

What this job involves

Most suburban homes have orange peel or knockdown texture. A plain patch stands out, so the pro patches the hole, then sprays or rolls on new texture to match. The texture is feathered into the old so you cannot see the edge. Once dry it gets primed and painted. Matching a hand troweled texture takes a few tries, and the pro will show you a test spot first.

What to have ready

  • Close up photos of the damage and the surrounding texture
  • The number of spots
  • Whether this is a wall or a ceiling
  • Leftover paint, if you have it

What a fair price looks like

Most homeowners in our area pay between $175 and $500 for this job. Labor and materials for a few spots. Painting the patch is included if you have the paint. Homes built before 1978 may need lead safe practices.

This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.

What a good pro will ask you first

  • What texture is on the wall now?
  • How big is the repair?
  • Wall or ceiling?
  • Do you have matching paint?
