Install laminate or vinyl plank
A pro removes the old floor and lays click together laminate or vinyl plank, with new trim at the edges.
What this job involves
Click together planks float over the subfloor, so there is no glue or nails. The old carpet or floor comes out and the subfloor is cleaned and checked for high and low spots. Underlayment goes down, then the planks are laid from a straight line with staggered joints. Doors may need trimming at the bottom, and new quarter round covers the gap at the walls. Soft or uneven subfloor is the usual surprise.
What to have ready
- The square feet of each room, with a little extra
- The flooring on hand or ordered, plus underlayment
- What is on the floor now
- Whether the furniture will be out
- Photos of the floor and doorways
What a fair price looks like
Most homeowners in our area pay between $800 and $2,400 for this job. Labor per 300 to 500 square feet with flooring supplied by the homeowner. Removing old carpet and installing quarter round are included. Subfloor repair is extra.
This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.
What a good pro will ask you first
- What rooms, and how many square feet?
- What is on the floor now?
- Is the flooring here, and does it have attached padding?
- Will the furniture be moved out?
