Transitions and thresholds
A pro installs the strips where two floors meet so the edge is covered and safe to walk on.
What this job involves
Where carpet meets tile or wood meets vinyl, a strip covers the edge. The pro picks the right type, a T molding for even floors or a reducer for a step down. The strip is cut to the doorway and fastened with a track, glue, or screws. Metal, wood, and vinyl strips are all common. A worn or missing strip is a trip hazard, which matters for anyone unsteady on their feet.
What to have ready
- The number of doorways
- Photos of each spot, showing both floors
- The width of each doorway
- Whether the strips are bought
What a fair price looks like
Most homeowners in our area pay between $100 and $300 for this job. Labor for a few doorways with strips supplied by the homeowner.
This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.
What a good pro will ask you first
- How many doorways?
- What two floors meet at each one?
- Are the floors the same height?
- Do you want wood, metal, or vinyl strips?
