Grab bars
A pro anchors grab bars into studs or solid backing so they hold a person's full weight.
What this job involves
Grab bars must go into wood studs or special anchors rated for tile, not just drywall. The pro finds the studs behind the tile, drills with a tile bit, and screws the bar in tight. Bars go beside the toilet, at the tub edge, and inside the shower where a hand reaches naturally. The pro will ask the user to show where they reach for support. Suction cup bars are not safe and should come down.
What to have ready
- Where you want the bars, with photos
- Who will use them and their height
- The bars on hand, or a length in mind
- Whether the walls are tile, fiberglass, or drywall
What a fair price looks like
Most homeowners in our area pay between $125 and $325 for this job. Labor for two or three bars with anchors included. Bars supplied by the homeowner.
This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.
What a good pro will ask you first
- Who is using them, and are they tall or short?
- Tile, fiberglass, or painted wall?
- Beside the toilet, in the tub, or in the shower?
- Does the person use a walker or wheelchair?
