Replace supply lines and shutoff valves
A licensed plumber replaces old valves and hoses under sinks and behind toilets before they fail.
What this job involves
The small valves under sinks and behind toilets seize up over the years, and old rubber hoses can burst. The plumber shuts off the main, cuts out the old valve, and installs a new quarter turn valve. New braided steel lines go to the faucet or toilet, and washing machine hoses can be done at the same time. Illinois requires a licensed plumber for this. Old galvanized pipe sometimes crumbles when cut, which adds work.
What to have ready
- Which fixtures, like kitchen sink, two bathrooms, toilets
- Where the main water shutoff is
- Photos under each sink
- Whether any valve drips or will not turn
What a fair price looks like
Most homeowners in our area pay between $150 and $450 for this job. Labor with valves and lines included for a few fixtures. A licensed plumber is required.
This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.
What a good pro will ask you first
- How many valves and lines?
- Does the main shutoff work?
- Are the pipes copper, plastic, or galvanized?
- Any leaks right now?
Why we only send a licensed plumbing pro
Illinois licenses plumbers statewide, and the law covers repairs and fixture swaps, not just new construction. Every plumbing request on this site goes only to a pro whose state license and contractor registration we have checked.
