Shelving and storage
A pro hangs floating shelves, brackets, or storage racks anchored to hold real weight.
What this job involves
Shelves that hold books or dishes need to be in studs. The pro finds the studs, marks a level line, and mounts the brackets or hidden floating shelf hardware. Pantry and basement shelves can be built from boards or a wire kit. Floating shelves look clean but need solid anchoring to stay level with weight on them. Plaster and brick walls need different anchors.
What to have ready
- Where the shelves go, with photos
- The shelves or kit on hand
- What will sit on them, like books or canned goods
- The wall type, if you know
What a fair price looks like
Most homeowners in our area pay between $100 and $350 for this job. Labor for a few shelves with shelves supplied by the homeowner. Built pantry shelves add to the range.
This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.
What a good pro will ask you first
- How many shelves, and how long?
- Floating, bracket, or built in place?
- How much weight will they hold?
- What is the wall made of?
