Regrout or recaulk a shower
A pro cuts out the cracked grout and old caulk, then regrouts and seals the shower.
What this job involves
Cracked grout and black caulk let water behind the tile. The pro grinds out the loose grout, scrapes the old caulk, and cleans the joints. New grout is packed in and wiped down. The corners and the tub edge get fresh mildew resistant caulk. If tiles are loose or the wall feels soft, there may be water damage behind, and the pro will tell you before going further.
What to have ready
- Photos of the worst spots, up close
- Whether any tiles feel loose or hollow
- The grout color you want, or a photo of the current color
- Whether the shower can stay dry for two days
What a fair price looks like
Most homeowners in our area pay between $200 and $500 for this job. Labor and grout and caulk included. Loose tile or wall repair is extra.
This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.
What a good pro will ask you first
- Is it the grout, the caulk, or both?
- Are any tiles loose?
- Does the shower leak into the room below?
- What size is the shower?
