Video doorbell
A pro mounts your video doorbell, connects the low voltage wires, and gets the app working.
What this job involves
A video doorbell shows you who is at the door on your phone. The pro removes the old button, mounts the new doorbell, and connects the two thin bell wires. These are low voltage, so no electrical license is needed for the doorbell itself. The pro pairs it to your Wi Fi and makes sure the chime inside still rings. Old doorbell transformers are often too weak for a video doorbell, and swapping one near the furnace is simple.
What to have ready
- The doorbell on hand
- Your Wi Fi name and password written down, kept to yourself until the pro needs it
- Whether the old doorbell is wired or battery
- A photo of the current doorbell button
What a fair price looks like
Most homeowners in our area pay between $100 and $225 for this job. Labor with the doorbell supplied by the homeowner. Low voltage, no licensed trade required. A new transformer adds a little.
This is a range to help you judge a quote, not a quote. The pro you are matched with gives you their own price, in writing for anything over $1,000, and you pay them directly. We charge the pro a small flat fee only after the job is done. We never ask you for payment.
What a good pro will ask you first
- Which brand did you buy?
- Is there a wired doorbell now?
- Does the Wi Fi reach the front door?
- Do you want the chime inside to still ring?
